A PAIR of mums are celebrating after their new online business won a series of awards.
Monica Cove and Maria Howard, both from Goffs Oak, set up their company in October 2010, and since then it has gained recognition from the likes of Theo Paphitis, star of BBC’s Dragons’ Den.
They sell ethical and eco-friendly crafts on their website www.sinceritygifts.co.uk, which is run from Monica’s home.
Monica, who has four children, said: “Theo Paphitis chose us as one of his Small Business Sundays, where he chooses a small business he likes on Twitter. Every week about 500 businesses apply, so we feel quite honoured to have won.
“Then last month we were chosen in a similar contest by Jacqueline Gold, who is chief executive of Ann Summers. That led to a lot more people following us on Twitter and much more orders.”
This month the company was also given a ‘Gold Award’ for their website by Mumpreneur UK.
Monica, 50, said: “The Mumpreneur website awards are given for how good a website looks and if it is easy to use. They told us that the award is given to very few websites.”
The women have seven children between them, aged from 14 to 23.
Monica, who has two sons and twin daughters, said: “All my children still live at home so with the business here too it is a very busy household.
“We used to have a craft business but stopped it in order to bring up our children.
“When we decided to start up again, we decided that online was the best way to go.”
